One of Japan's three major morning markets. There are two major morning markets in Takayama: Jinya-mae Morning Market and Miyagawa Morning Market. This morning market developed from the Edo period as a rice market, mulberry market, flower market, etc., and from the Meiji era, farmers' wives started displaying vegetables, and it came to be called the morning market.
Jinya-mae morning market

A morning market is held every morning at two locations in the Takayama city area. The Jinya-mae morning market was held as a mulberry market on the grounds of Takayama Betsuin Temple around 1820, but it is said that it later moved to Yayoibashi, Nakabashi, and then to the current location in front of Takayama Jinya. You can buy Hida-grown ingredients such as vegetables, fruits, rice cakes, and flowers grown by farmers at low prices. Also, interacting with local farmers who speak the Hida dialect will become a wonderful memory of your trip.
Miyagawa morning market

Morning markets are held every morning in two locations in Takayama. The Miyagawa Morning Market was originally held in front of Takayama Betsuin Temple, but after the war, street vendors joined the market and it expanded to Yasukawa Street. After that, it moved to the current location along the Miyagawa River. You can buy seasonal ingredients such as vegetables, fruits, and pickled vegetables grown by farmers. It's worth getting up early to spend time surrounded by the soothing sound of the river and the crisp morning air.
