Mt. Fuji, the best in Japan! From Shizuoka City you can see the mountain beautifully from the top to the base. We will introduce you to some spots where you can take photos of Mt. Fuji, which shows different expressions depending on the season.
Miho no Matsubara (Registered as a component part of the Mount Fuji World Cultural Heritage Site)
The first place we would like to introduce is Miho no Matsubara, which was registered as a component part of the Mount Fuji World Heritage Site in 2013.
Approximately 30,000 pine trees grow along the approximately 7km coastline, and the scenery of the green pine forest, the white waves crashing on the shore, the blue sea and Mt. Fuji has been depicted in the ukiyo-e of Utagawa Hiroshige, as well as in numerous paintings and waka poems. You can capture both Mt. Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan, and Suruga Bay, the deepest bay in Japan, in a single photo.
Nihondaira/Nihondaira Dream Terrace
Located on a hilly area at an altitude of 307m, the panoramic view of Mt. Fuji over the tea fields, Shimizu Port, the Izu Peninsula, and the Southern Alps below is truly the most spectacular view in Japan. The Nihon-daira Ropeway operates between the summit and Kunozan Toshogu Shrine in 5 minutes, and you can enjoy the beauty of Suruga Bay and the seasonal scenery of Byobudani. In November 2018, the Nihon-daira Yume Terrace, a new observation facility where you can enjoy a beautiful 360-degree view of Mt. Fuji, Miho no Matsubara, Suruga Bay, Shizuoka city, and more, was opened. In addition to enjoying the view from the summit of Nihon-daira in even more comfort, you can also enjoy the history, origins, and cultural value of Nihon-daira through projection mapping and other displays.
Nihon-daira Ropeway
The Nihon-daira Ropeway is a five-minute cableway that connects the summit of Nihon-daira, a scenic spot that was once chosen as number one in the Japan's Top 100 Tourist Destinations Competition, to Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, a historic site associated with Tokugawa Ieyasu and the only national treasure building in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Satta Pass (Hiking Course)
A scenic spot overlooking Mt. Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the Izu Peninsula, this is a relaxing spot on the Tokaido road. Take a leisurely hike from Okitsu Station to Yui Station and enjoy the sights of Yui. The view of Mt. Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the Izu Peninsula from the observation deck is truly spectacular.
