Last year's art project in Oarai Town, Ibaraki Prefecture, "Lighting up the Sea Town - Illuminating a Corner of Oarai," was held again this year for two days only, on Saturday, October 5th and Sunday, October 6th, 2024, at Oarai Isosaki Shrine.

Oarai, located almost in the center of the Pacific coast of Ibaraki Prefecture, is a wonderful town full of attractions with a mild climate that is comfortable all year round, rich nature, beautiful scenery, and fresh seafood. The Oarai Isosaki Shrine, which enshrines the gods who reigned over the reef, is famous as a SNS spot together with the torii of Kamiiso floating in the Pacific Ocean. In addition, Japan's top-class aquarium "Aqua World Ibaraki Prefecture Oarai Aquarium", two attractive beaches "Oarai Sun Beach" and "Oarai Kaigan" where you can swim and play on the seashore, Oarai where you can see a large panorama from a height of 55m. There are plenty of sightseeing spots that you can fully enjoy, such as the symbol "Oarai Marine Tower"! You can enjoy fresh seafood such as Oarai specialties such as "raw whitebait" that can only be tasted in the production area, "monkfish" that was loved by the shogun, rock oysters, and clams.
We would like to thank the many customers who came over both days. This year's event was a great success and ended without any problems.

The opening performance was by the Mizuki High School Calligraphy Club! Their powerful performance was met with thunderous applause from the audience!

The stairs leading to the temple grounds were also lit up!

We also had a Japanese drum performance by "Wakana." Her dynamic drumming drew thunderous applause!

The light-up event was held at Oarai Isosaki Shrine, where the view of the ocean from the shrine grounds is amazing. Along with the "Kamiiso no Torii" that floats in the Pacific Ocean, it is famous as a photogenic spot for social media. Please come and visit Oarai Isosaki Shrine.

* Buses are available from Oarai Station.
From Oarai Station, take the Oarai Kaiyu bus for about 15 minutes and get off at the "Oarai Isosaki Jinja Shita" bus stop.
