The legendary ice cream "Ronron"
"Ronron" is a frozen dessert with a retro and nostalgic design that looks as if it has traveled straight back in time from the Showa. Developed in 1983 by Okinawa Meiji Dairy and Mount Maru Reika (now Toguchi Co., Ltd.) in Nago City , Okinawa Prefecture , this frozen dessert was loved and cherished throughout Okinawa Prefecture during its heyday. However, because the company has consistently adhered to a manufacturing method that does not use preservatives since its launch, it required costly frozen transportation. Furthermore, as the number of traditional shops that served as sales bases decreased with time, "Ronron" gradually became rare, and today it is a legendary frozen dessert known only to a select few in Okinawa.
The summer of 2026 is expected to be another scorching hot one, following the heat of the past two years. "Ronron," a cold and sweet treat, is perfect for cooling down and replenishing your sugar levels during the summer.
