However, the three bridge piers on the JR Amarube Station side were preserved on-site and reborn as the Amarube Viaduct "Sky Station" observation facility. This temple is part of the Koyasan Shingon sect and was founded by Gyoki Bodhisattva in 745. All 165 sliding screen paintings by Edo period painter Maruyama Okyo and his disciples have been designated as Important Cultural Properties, and the temple is also affectionately known as "Okyo-ji Temple." The temple grounds are surrounded by giant camphor and chestnut trees that are about 1,200 years old, creating a solemn atmosphere.
