The Scenic & Retro "Ikoma Sanjo Amusement Park"in Nara
This amusement park is located on a mountain, which is rare in Japan, and offers beautiful views from the top of the mountain and rides that even small children can enjoy. This amusement park with a long history, having opened in 1929, has retro rides that are still in operation to delight children, and is popular with families and couples. Another nice thing is that admission is free. Opening hours are usually from 10:00 to 17:00, but closing hours are extended during the summer holidays and the park is closed from December to mid-March.
Just about an hour by train from Osaka City, take the Ikoma Station, then hop on the cable car and you'll be transported in no time to a different world where the sky and city stretch out before you. Admission to Ikoma Sanjo Amusement Park is free. However, there are separate charges for each attraction. Please note that there are age restrictions on the attractions to ensure everyone can enjoy them safely.
Ride the Cute Ikoma Cable Car to Enter the Park
To get to the amusement park, walk about three minutes from Kintetsu Ikoma Station and take the cable car from Torii Station. Change to the cable car at the next station, Takayama Station, and it will take about 16 minutes to get to the final stop, Ikoma Sanjo Amusement Park Station. The cable car is shaped like a dog character. Bull and Mike will greet you at Torii Station, and Doremi and Sweet will greet you at Takayama Station. You'll be excited even before you enter the park!
Kintetsu Ikoma Station boasts excellent accessibility from Osaka , being approximately 20 minutes by rapid train from Osaka Namba Station and about 15 minutes from Kintetsu Nara Station.

The "Flying Tower," said to be the oldest large-scale playground equipment in Japan, is the symbol of Ikoma Sanjo Amusement Park.

The attraction of the amusement park is that you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view from an altitude of 642 meters. What are the opening hours of Ikoma Sanjo Amusement Park?
The basic operating hours are 10:00 to 17:00. During the summer months from mid-July to late August, there are evening hours, and on days when you can enjoy the park's illuminations and night view, the park may be open until 20:00 to 21:00 (In 2026, summer hours were in effect on July 18, 19, 20, 25, and 26, and throughout August).
When is Ikoma Sanjo Amusement Park closed?
The park is closed every Thursday (except August 13th), as well as on August 12th (Wednesday), September 8th (Tuesday), September 9th (Wednesday), September 25th (Friday), and will be closed for the winter season from December 7th (Monday).
Are there any attractions that can be used even on rainy days?

There are coin lockers inside the park. If you're coming from Ikoma Station, there are coin lockers inside the station or to the left after exiting the Chuo ticket gate. It's also recommended to leave large luggage in the coin lockers at Ikoma Station before transferring to the cable car!
