The Hokuto City Akeno Sunflower Festival, a popular annual event that brightens up the summer in Hokuto City , features approximately 400,000 sunflowers blooming under the blue sky in the Akeno area, which boasts one of the longest hours of sunshine in Japan.
In 2026, the event will be held from July 18th to August 16th, and its appeal lies in the fact that the blooming areas change depending on the time of year, allowing visitors to enjoy it for an extended period. With its expansive views overlooking the Minami Alps, it is a popular spot representing Hokuto City and is perfect for summer photography .
As a new initiative this year, we will be holding a one-night-only "Sunflower Light-Up" event on Friday, August 14th, starting at 7:00 PM . Last year, this was an event exclusively for "SunFes Supporters" who help manage the sunflower fields, but this year, general visitors can also enjoy the magical nighttime sunflower fields. We also ask for a "Sunflower Cooperation Fee" when parking at the venue. Starting this year, we have introduced an automated payment machine, and the system has changed to one where you pay after parking. Payment is by cash only, so please prepare the necessary amount in advance when you come .
