Yufuin Station Rules & Tips: Starting Point for Sightseeing

1. Currently under renovation (Operating with a temporary ticket gate)

As of November 2026, Yufuin Station is undergoing renovation work and is operating with a temporary ticket gate. Due to the construction, the waiting room (Art Hall) inside the station is unavailable, but the restrooms and coin lockers are available as before. There are also no changes to the taxi stand, so those traveling from the station to tourist attractions or accommodations can use it with peace of mind.

2. Boarding for Limited Express Trains Starts at the Temporary Tent

To avoid congestion on the platforms, boarding to the platforms for express trains such as the "Yufuin no Mori" will begin 10 to 15 minutes before departure. Passengers will be guided to the platforms in the order they line up in the temporary tents outside the ticket gates, so please line up and wait according to the signs if you are planning to board the train.

3. No IC Cards Accepted! Key Rules for Tickets and Gates

There are no automatic ticket gates: When boarding the train, you show a paper ticket or your screen (app, etc.) to a station attendant.

IC card not accepted: IC cards (such as Suica, PASMO and SUGOCA) cannot be used on either local or limited express trains. If you do not have a ticket, please be sure to purchase a paper ticket from an automatic ticket vending machine before boarding.

4. Ticket Changes & Refunds: Early Handling Recommended

For inquiries, changes, or refunds regarding tickets, please contact the ticket window near the ticket gates. Yufuin Station is relatively small for the number of users, so it can get very crowded at certain times of the day. If you need to go to the ticket window at the last minute, you may not have enough time to complete the procedure and could miss your train, so please come early with plenty of time to spare.
